Who We Are

Katie is a local Mackay girl with 18 years experience in the hairdressing industry. Katie’s work has been in editorials and local and national magazines over the years and Katie also spent a year Hairdressing in London. Katie bought the salon in 2014 and has thrived to train staff including apprentices and senior hairdressers, to have an amazing salon and to give clients that wonderful experience. Katie has attended numerous amounts of cutting, colouring and styling workshops and seminars over the years and believe it gives a greater understanding of seasonal trends. I have such a passion for hair and customer service including maintaining a happy workplace for staff.

Katie’s interests outside of the salon are shopping, taking the dogs for a run on the beach, catching up with friends and family, going out to dinner, gym, painting, bush walking, meditation, health and crystals.

Katie's favourite thing about the hairdressing industry is “the ever changing, evolving, inspiring hairdressing world, the education on offer, the comradery between stylists, the amazing scissors and equipment available and technology used behind them. The amazing haircare brands and their teams that provide education, motivation and inspiration and that ultimate feeling of creating something amazing for a client to just love! - everything really!”

“The reason I love Edison’s is because of the great vibe, modern decor, my beautiful team of amazing young women and of course the wonderful clients that support us so much!”

“My strengths in hairdressing would be my Cutting and Styling, although I do love all aspects including Colouring Blondes and Upstyling.”

“I chose hairdressing because I wanted to be one since I was 3- I love to create, I am an artist at heart and love sculpture and believe hairdressing is in some ways a type of art with hair. I also love the science behind all the chemical processes and the maths used including angles and ratios. I do love also being a listening ear for clients to come in and talk to while I work my magic with them”

Tash, as she is known to most, is one of the senior stylists here at Edison’s, with over 14 years of experience in the hairdressing industry. 

Tash has previously worked and trained alongside Katie whilst completing her 4-year apprenticeship and working locally as a senior stylist before joining the Edison team 6 years ago. Tash has been involved in some editorial work and has also attended various seminars and training over the course of her years in the industry.  

Some of Tash’s hobbies or interests outside work include cattle, farming, motorsport racing, her 6 dogs, spending time with family and friends, shooting, hunting and camping. Although Tash recently became a first-time Mum, some of these hobbies may be on hold for a while!

Tash loves how working in the hair industry allows her to be creative. She also loves “the interaction with the beautiful clients, making people feel good about themselves and about their hair”.

Tash’s favourite thing about working at Edison’s is “working alongside the lovely team of girls, the great atmosphere. Oh, and of course Mrs boss lady Katie”. 

Strengths in the hair industry for Tash are “Cutting and Colouring and also Chemical Straightening.”

“As a young girl, I always wanted to be a hairdresser. So, when I was old enough, I gave it a go. And here I am today!”

Kirra is one of our senior stylists at Edison’s.

Kirra joined us a few years ago from Brisbane where she began her apprenticeship to then complete it here with us at Edison’s. Kirra has completed her studies for her Certificate III as well as many cutting and colouring courses over the years to further her extensive knowledge. Kirra is an amazing stylist and a much-loved team member at Edison’s.

Outside of the salon, Kirra’s interests include cooking, travelling, going to the beach & the gym, spending time with friends & family, taking my dog swimming at the beach and exploring new places to see in and around Mackay!

One of the key things Kirra loves about the hairdressing industry is “making people feel good and look good.”

Kirra’s favourite thing about working at Edison’s “is the amazing team, the beautiful clients and the atmosphere here in the salon”

Strengths Kirra has in Hairdressing are Colouring, Blonde Lightning, Cutting and Styling the hair. 

Some of the reasons Kirra chose to do hairdressing is because “it’s a fun and fast paced career that will never die. A place that you can always learn new things about life and hair.”

Becki began her apprenticeship as a school based apprentice while she was still at school and has now been fulltime for a few years and we are so happy to have her! Becki has undergone a lot of training already but also brings to the team awesome natural talent and amazing passion. 

“Outside of work I love spending time with my friends and family as well as staying active.”

“My favourite thing about hairdressing is the common use of creativity, this allows me to demonstrate my artistic side!”

“Working at Edison’s is such an honour, my favourite thing about the salon, is the amazing team! These girls are so incredibly talented, I am so excited to learn more from them throughout my hairdressing career.”

“Thus far in my hairdressing I enjoy Shampooing and applying luxury treatments, performing Brasil Cacau Keratin Smoothing therapies, cutting, applying colours foiling, blowdrying, curling, straightening and of course eyebrows and lashes!”

“I chose to begin my hairdressing career after completing a week of work experience at Edison Hair. During this time I had the opportunity to see the girls use their creativity, artistic skill set and amazing customer service. I also saw the unbreakable bond between the team, this was something that I hoped to be a part of.”

Avril began with us last year and has already achieved so much! As a creative and academic Avril is blitzing through her training, as a fulltime apprentice. Avril is attending Central Queensland University weekly to complete her Certificate III in Hairdressing. A down to earth, easy to talk to Avril makes everyone feel very comfortable and welcome.

Some of Avril’s hobbies outside of work include “swimming, working out and painting/drawing”

“My favourite part about the hairdressing industry is that it is always changing, creating new ways and techniques which allows hairdressers to continue to learn and improve their skills”

Avril’s favourite thing about working here is “the amazing team and the opportunities I am continually presented with.”

“I believe one of my strengths so far in hairdressing is head massages, toners and Brasil Protein Smoothing treatments.”

One of the reasons Avril chose to pursue hairdressing is that “it is a very rewarding career. I love being able to help people look and feel their best, plus always having the opportunity to keep learning and growing in this industry.”

Maddy joins the Edison team as a second year apprentice with a wide range of skills.

Maddy brings a friendly, welcoming and down to earth nature to the salon!

Maddy’s hobbies outside of work include spending time with her family, partner, friends and dog.

“My favourite thing about hairdressing is seeing the clients faces when they love their hair!”

“My favourite thing about working at Edison Hair Collective would be how positive and supportive all of the girls are and the clients. We are all so close not just inside the salon, but also outside of it - and I love that!”

Maddy’s strengths so far would be head massages, colouring and styling.
